Reported by: Lauren MacDonough Monday, Apr 27, 2009 @05:00pm EDT I know I tried to get online Sunday morning and failed at every attempt. Tens of thousands, maybe millions of Road Runner users couldn't log on. Time Warner phone customers were in the dark too.
The outage stretched from Buffalo to Portland, Maine. We were getting calls to the newsroom around 9 a.m. with people reporting outages. By 2 p.m., phone and internet service were back online. So what happened? A Time Warner representative says a piece of equipment, a router, malfunctioned in Syracuse. Time Warner hasn't said why if in fact it was a strain on the network that caused the router to fail. You'll recall earlier this month that Time Warner said quote "internet brownouts" could be on the horizon. That's why earlier this month, the company announced it wanted to change the way you pay. Time Warner believed a tiered pay system would take the strain off and raise money for system upgrades. That plan was backed off of because of a strong backlash from customers. |
