Reported by: WROC TV Sunday, Apr 19, 2009 @12:33pm EDT A combination of a border fence, good technology and more enforcement is what's needed to protect the nation's southern border with Mexico. So said Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano on CNN's "State of the Union." She said along with making sure the border is secure, law enforcement needs to crack down on companies that consistently hire illegal immigrants. Napolitano opposed building a 50-foot-tall border fence while serving as governor of Arizona, but now says in some areas such a structure would make sense. In addition to curbing illegal immigration, Napolitano said better protection of the border could cut down on the flow of drugs from Mexico as well as weapons and cash into the country's southern neighbor.
