  • Poll: Nearly Half of NY'ers Say They're Overweight
    Reported by: WROC-TV

Nearly half of New York residents say they're either somewhat or very overweight, according to a new poll.

The Siena Research Institute poll out Wednesday shows 44% of respondents saying they're somewhat (39%) or very (5%) overweight.  26% say they're trying to lose weight, while 41% are watching what they eat.

47% said that they are in good health.  When it comes to activity, 79% said they are at least somewhat active.  More than 90% of New Yorkers agree that obesity is a serious health problem.

"When it comes to health, nutrition and exercise, knowing and doing just don't match up. Most New Yorkers have all the information they need, have medical advice, and say that in many cases they are making healthy life choices, but still only 28% of all residents report both that their health is great and their weight is about right," according to Dr. Don Levy, Director of the Siena College Research Institute, in a statement.

More women (48%) than men (40%) said they were overweight.
