Reported by: Kevin Doran Tuesday, Feb 24, 2009 @04:29pm EST Our Golden Apple Award winner teaches Public Speaking at Avon High School. But Ronny Tsang was speechless when we surprised him in front of the entire school. Ronny Tsang has been an English Teacher at Avon High School for four years. In that short time Principal Chris Salinas says he's earned great respect. "You know Ronny deserves this, he is one of the hardest working teachers I have ever seen." When Mr. Salinas heard 11th Grader Lacey Daniels nominated Mr. Tsang for a Golden Apple Award he wanted to do it up big. Big as in he wanted the entire school involved. "I think he'll be relatively embarrassed. He's not going to know what to do to be honest with you." So with Mr. Tsang volunteering to run the computer for a presentation he thought was for something else. We snuck into the gym from the back. Mr. Tsang was definitely surprised and didn't have much to say. "Wow I am really, really nervous right now. My public speaking kids are probably going to critique me later about this. But this is one of the highest compliments you can receive as a teacher I think." Lacey was even brave enough to read her letter nominating Mr. Tsang to the entire school. Mr. Tsang especially liked the part where she mentioned he's a good person to go to for advice. "I like to pride myself on the fact that I know a lot about a lot of different things. Maybe not everything, but I try to know a little bit about everything. And just be there for the kids if they need advice on anything. Or just someone to talk to." Ronny Tsang says the profession of Teaching is different everyday. Which makes it exciting. Which is why he loves his job. And why he is a News 8 Golden Apple Award Winner. You can read Lacey Daniels' entire letter nominating Mr. Tsang below. Dear Channel 8, My name is Lacey and I am 17 years old. I would like to nominate my public speaking teacher, Mr. Tsang, for the Golden Apple Award. Mr. Tsang is a respectable guy with phenomenal teaching skills in both public speaking, and English. Not only is he a great teacher, but he is a great person to go to for advice and help with any class subject. I think Mr. Tsang would be a great person to receive the Golden Apple Award. He truly deserves it. Sincerely, Lacey Daniels Avon High School |
