College is expensive.  Especially when money is hard to come by.  "The good news is no student should have to worry about being able to come here or being able to stay here based on the economy," said Jon Burdick, University of Rochester Dean Of Admissions and Financial Aid.

    Students at the
University of Rochester are asking for more financial help for next year.  "What we're seeing so far is just a lot of anxiety.  A lot of parents are thinking am I going to lose my job and what does that mean for my ability to pay for my child's education," said Burdick.

The U of R is finding ways to accommodate students with more grants and better access to loans.  "It's between 1 and 3 million dollars we expect we may need," said Burdick.

There's also seeing new trends in a bad economy.  "We're having our biggest application year ever," said Burdick.

There are a lot of adult applicants.  People who want job re-training.  "Going to college and getting as much training as you can is probably a really good response to a bad economy," said Burdick.

Burdick says while higher education isn't recession-proof the University isn't going anywhere.  "The most important thing is students don't fear to start college.  No matter what else happens whether this is a 5 month recession or two year depression.  Education's going to be an essential way people get out of it," said Burdick.
