Reported by: WROC TV Saturday, Jan 24, 2009 @11:16am EST New York's immigration advocacy groups are blasting Governor David Paterson's selection to replace Hillary Clinton in Washington. Kirsten Gillibrand broke with former Governor Eliot Spitzer last year over his unsuccessful attempt to provide driver's licenses to illegal immigrants. The new junior Senator also supported legislation in the House to deputize local police officer to enforce immigration laws and deport undocumented citizens. But New York Immigration Executive Director Chung Wha-Hong calls Gillibrand's positions "deeply troubling" and asks her to "reconsider her positions on immigration." Hong wants Gillibrand to fight for "fairer immigration policies" to help bring out "undocumented New Yorkers living in the shadows." |
