Reported by: WROC-TV Friday, Sep 5, 2008 @12:40pm EDT ![]() In Webster, a controlled deer hunt, an idea proposed in August, has been approved. Town officials say the deer population has spiked. In the last year, the department has collected the remains of 160 deer involved in car accidents. Starting on Monday, 30 special permits will be issued to Webster residents only. The permits are good from October 18th to November 14th. Bowhunters will be allowed to kill one doe, and turn in the tag. After that exchange, hunters can kill one buck. That will reduce the population in the town by 60. The town is working with the state DEC to get 50 more permits. The permits and tags will be available beginning Monday, September 8th, from the town clerk. Only bow permits will be issued. Hunters must show their NYS bow license and proof of residence. |
