Reported by: WRoC Monday, Apr 28, 2008 @09:14pm EDT It's not your average studio lot, but Rochester's tech park will soon be home to Rochester Park Studios, a mix of sound stages, back-lot locations and more. The project is being spear-headed by local director Alex Miltsch and is already getting rave reviews from those in the local film industry. "Anytime anything is built people come and others come and use the facilities and it all works very well together,” said June Foster, Executive Director of the Rochester/Finger Lakes Film and Video Office. "We've had feature films that come through here and have built their own stages on that site.” But this new project would mean a permanent studio. Foster says there is a need. "The indigenous talent has begun to really make their own product and produce their own projects, write the screenplays and produce their own films so their having the need for space like this as well,” Foster said. "I think the first thing that it shows is the demand that there is in Rochester and how much as a city we've grown as a destination for filmmakers,” said Bob Russell, Executive Director of the Little Theatre. The Little Theatre holds showings for emerging filmmakers. Russell says a new studio creates yet another stepping stone for independent filmmakers and will attract others from outside the area. "Now to be able to have that next transition for filmmakers to know that in Rochester it's not just using the outdoor locations that we have but that we've got the technology to have an inside studio I think what it does is it just reinforces the fact that it's a great place to come shoot a film,” said Russell. Shooting could begin at the new studio by this summer. |
