  • Solar car arrives in Rochester

    Sunday, Apr 27, 2008 @06:00pm EDT

SOLARCARA2008-04-27-1209344656.jpgThe solar car made a stop in Rochester Sunday. The car stopped at RIT in Henrietta Sunday. The solar car is the creation of people from 23 different countries. It runs on 900 watts of energy from its solar panel. Driving the solar car 160 miles actually uses less energy than a toaster. Some attendees say the solar car could be the car of the future.

"I think we're all a bunch of hypocrite...we're all waiting for the government, someone or something to save the planet for us...it's not going to happen. We have to do something about that ourselves," says Marcelo DeLuz, who is part of the "Power of One", the organization which brought the solar car to Rochester.

The solar car does have a battery which needs to be recharged periodically but it can operate at below freezing temperatures and even drive on icy roads.
