The Rochester Rhinos have taken the lead of their rivals and jumped ship to a new soccer league.

The soccer club is the 10th team to join the new North American Soccer League.  They're joined by their rivals, the Montreal Impact, and Carolina RailHawks.

Team owners will select a commissioner soon, and begin work on the next season's schedule.  The league tentatively plans on starting play in April 2010.

Other teams that have joined the league are the Atlanta Silverbacks, Crystal Palace Baltimore, Miami FC Blues, Minnesota Thunder, St. Louis United, Tampa Bay Rowdies and Vancouver Whitecaps.

The NASL name is a homage to the first North American Soccer League, which was in business from 1968 to 1984.  The old NASL is probably best known for bringing soccer superstar Pelé to America, to try and jump start interest in soccer here.
