  • Salvation Army's New Red Kettles
    Reported by: WROC TV

There could be less jingle in the Salvation's Army's Red Kettles this season.

The charity is testing kettles that take debit and credit cards in 30 cities across the United States.

Rochester is not one of them but soon could be.

These days fewer shoppers are carrying cash and bell ringers noticed many shoppers apologizing for not having spare change.

The new kettles that take credit don't look different,-but have wireless card readers.
Two receipts are printed---one for the donor and one to be dropped in the kettle. The Salvation Army has seen an increase in donations, but isn't sure how much of an impact the new kettles had.

Still the charity says the old-fashioned kettles are holiday tradition, and aren't going anywhere anytime soon.
