A Facebook posting urging kids to take part in "National Kick a Ginger Day" by beating up redheads has been carried out.

Three middle school students were detained and booked in connection with attacks on seven redheaded classmates in Calabasas, California over the last week.

The three subjects, a 13-year-old and two twelve year olds, have been released to their parents.

Investigators with the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department say dozens of students left messages on the Facebook page claiming to have carried out attacks.

The incidents appear to have been inspired by an an episode of the animated TV satire "South Park."
