The final terrible moments of those who were inside the Twin Towers on 9-11 can be read and felt in newly released text messages.
Over a half-million of the messages have been made public by the whistleblower site Wikileaks.
The texts reveal the horror experienced by victims when the planes slammed into the buildings as well as frantic messages from family members.
The intensity of the situation is evident as the communications mount in the moments after the attacks.
One text mentions a bomb detonation in the World Trade Center.
Just minutes later, another describes seeing the Towers blown up.
A subsequent message points to the realization the attacks are deliberate after a second plane slams into the buildings.
One particularly poignant texts reads, quote, "'I know you have a new relationship and do not care about me. But just in case anything happens, know I love you, hon."
The just-released messages also provide insight into the federal government's reaction to the crisis months after it unfolded.
One text orders a federal worker to deploy to Mount Weather now.
It refers to a national emergency and command facility in an underground bunker for the Federal Emergency Management Agency.
Another says "Twinkle and Turquoise are accounted for and safe." It refers to then-President George W. Bush's twin daughters, Jenna and Barbara.
A spokesman for Wikileak says the company realizes the emotional impact the texts will produce, but says they are part of the "historic record."
