Monday, Nov 23, 2009 @10:30am EST A pro-business group believes Governor Paterson's proposal to reform industrial development agencies - IDA's - isn't a good idea.
Paterson wants to force developers to pay prevailing union wages on construction projects that receive lower-cost financing via an industrial development agency. Unshackle Upstate says such a requirement will severely hinder economic growth. Executive Director Brian Sampson notes it would defeat the main purpose of IDA's, which is to offer incentives to companies to offset the extremely high cost of doing business in New York. Sampson believes Paterson is supporting the change for short-term political gain. |
