Reported by: WROC-TV Wednesday, Nov 18, 2009 @06:30pm EST Finding a vaccine for HIV/AIDS. There's major work on that front being done at the University of Rochester.
Keep in mind, in Monroe County alone, nearly 2,000 people live with HIV and AIDS, and countless more are at risk. Work on a vaccine to prevent HIV/AIDS is critical, and that's why there's a major event this weekend to raise awareness. Joining us on News 8 at 5:30 was Jerald Noble, program director of Action for a Better Community, and Patrick Fisher, recruitment coordinator for HIV vaccine trials at the University of Rochester. We talked about a brief update on the vaccine trials currently underway locally, and why the study needs people at high risk to enroll in this trial. We asked how close are we to a vaccine, and why Action for a Better Community is joinng forces with more than a dozen other local agenices to raise awareness this weekend. The event is called Hope Takes Action: A Road to Victory for Rochester. It's Saturday, November 21st at the Auditorium Theatre from 4 to 8 p.m. The event is free to the public.
