A Gates man has died after an ATV accident in Steuben County.

It happened around 10 p.m. Friday in the Town of Cohocton. Joseph Wellin, 49, was killed after his ATV flipped over. State police say he was not wearing a helmet and suffered head injuries.

His passenger, Francis Clark, 46, of Prattsburgh, was taken to the hospital with minor injuries. He was later charged with marijuana possession.

State police say they believe speed and alcohol may have led to the crash.
