Reported by: WROC-TV Tuesday, Nov 10, 2009 @12:50pm EST Attorneys for the CBS producer accused in the alleged extortion plot on David Letterman have filed a motion to dismiss argument in the case.
Inside a Manhattan courtroom on Tuesday, Robert "Joe" Halderman's attorney filed the motion, asking that Halderman's case be tossed out. The judge in the case is giving prosecutors until December 15th to respond and will rule on the motion in January. Halderman is accused of demanding $2 million from Letterman in order to keep quiet about affairs the "Late Show" host had with staffers. Letterman later publicly admitted to those sexual encounters. Halderman maintains his actions don't amount to extortion or blackmail and that it was a legitimate business transaction between he and Letterman. Letterman's attorneys disagree and say the "Late Show" funnyman is prepared to testify at the trial if need be. |
