Tuesday, Nov 3, 2009 @05:41pm EST Caitlin McCabe is a student leader focused on creating change for the better! She's her fellow students by example in ways to conserve and recycle our non-renewable resources. Friends say Caitlin is determined to spread the message of 'going green'- not just because it's a popular thing to do, but because she's truly passionate about the idea of being globally responsible. With future plans that include studying biology and how it relates to environmental science, here is Caitlin's 'GoGreen' philosophy in her own words:
Sustainability; it is a
simple and everyday word, but in terms of our planet it can mean more than you
think. To me, sustainability is very important to the survival and continuation
of life as we know it. It is also important that we maintain our
beautiful planet for all future generations.
We have inherited the earth and we shouldn’t pass it on in a worse
state, we should do our best to make improvements and try and repair the damage
of so many generations. With help from the current global community we can hope
for a better tomorrow for those that will come later. I believe that I should do
my best to “pay it forward” to the Earth, it has been a comfortable home for me
and my ancestors and it deserves to be taken care of. In my own community I try
my best to do “green things” like recycle anything possible and purchase
second-hand goods when I can. Instead of
throwing something away and buying new, I fix it when I can. Also, I do my best to encourage all those
around me that going green is the way to go in order to keep our planet
healthy. In January, I will be introducing and working on a recycling project
at my high school. My goal is to educate
my generation on the power of recycling.
So, I encourage all people to reuse, reduce, and recycle as well as
conserve energy and find more environmentally safe ways to operate everyday
things. Oftentimes these green ways are more affordable and they are better for
the environment. Every little bit counts, and it is important that all of us do
our part, as small as that may be it adds up to something very big. The Earth is a gift and you take care of your gifts to make them last. The same theory applies to the Earth; take care of it so that way it lasts. When every person contributes a small amount, then large changes can be made that will hugely affect the health and future of our planet. -Caitlin McCabe |
