  • Amerks win 8th straight

    (Rochester, October 30)... The Rochester Americans defeated the Binghamton Senators 4-2 tonight at the Broome County Veterans Memorial Arena to capture their eighth straight victory. The win marked the first time since the 2004-05 season that the Amerks have reached the milestone.

    Jamie Johnson led the way with two goals, while Victor Oreskovich and Chris Taylor chipped in two assists each. Goalie Alexander Salak remained unbeaten in a 38-save performance to improve to 6-0-0. David Brine opened the scoring for the Amerks and Jason Garrison scored the game-winner in the third. Jesse Winchester and Derek Smith scored goals for Binghamton (3-4-2-0, eight points), who extended its winless streak of four games.

    Amerk defenseman Jason Garrison helped Rochester regain a one-goal lead with a power-play goal at 7:22 of the third period. He ripped a point shot past Andy Chiodo with assists going to Taylor and Mike York. Johnson added an empty-netter at 19:07.

    Derek Smith had evened things at two with a goal at 5:14 of the third period. It was the second time the Senators erased a one-goal deficit. The Amerks jumped out to 1-0 and 2-1 leads with a first-period goal by Brine and a second-period tally by Johnson.

    The contest was the second of 10 encounters this season between the two teams. Rochester gained a 2-0-0-0 season series lead over the Baby Sens with the win. The Amerks are 24-27-5 all-time against the Ottawa Senators’ affiliate
