Reported by: WROC-TV Wednesday, Oct 21, 2009 @02:00pm EDT It's a tough talk at the dinner table. But the state's hoping a new video will help start the conversation about underage drinking.
It's a major problem here in New York and across the country. According to federal statistics, about 5,000 people under the age of 21 die each year due to underage drinking. The video launched today shows how New Yorkers are making an effort to stop it. Westchester County made a public service announcement targeting drinking on prom night. A liquor store owner outside of Albany says he's on the alert when a concert comes to a local campus. The video comes as New York colleges are holding Alcohol Awareness Week. In New York, 7 out of 10 college students under 21 drank alcohol just this past month. College officials hope students this week learn how to make smart choices and behave responsibly. |
