Reported by: Lauren MacDonough Friday, Oct 9, 2009 @03:20pm EDT "To be honest, I do not feel that I deserve to be in the company of so many transformative figures who've been honored by this prize," said President Obama on Friday morning, a few hours after he learned he had won the 2009 Nobel Peace Prize. A lot of people on the Internet don't believe he deserves it either.
Big-name conservative pundits don't believe the president earned the award. Rush Limbaugh told Politico it's a greater embarrassment than losing the 2016 Olympics. Many liberals point to the ongoing wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, which haven't changed course. There's also the question of timing. President Obama has only been in office about nine months. Nominations had to be in by February 1st, just 12 days after Inauguration Day. Others say the prize speaks more volumes of the previous administration. "President Bush was very unpopular in Europe, and it's almost as if this is more of a comment on the previous administration than it is on the new one," said Bob Schieffer of CBS News. There is plenty of praise out there too. Al Gore, the Nobel Peace Prize winner in 2007, says the President's prize is well deserved and an honor for the country. We want to know what you think.
