Reported by: Lauren MacDonough Tuesday, Oct 6, 2009 @01:52pm EDT Hotmail, Gmail, Yahoo - all targets of a huge phishing scheme.
More than 30,000 email names and passwords fell into the wrong hands. Most people gave that info away by answering bogus emails that asked for passwords. Hackers guess that you use the same password for all your online accounts. Most of us are guilty of that: online banking, Facebook, email... you get the point. Email providers have been working since last week to protect their users. For example, Google has installed automatic password resets on all of its affected accounts. Again, the best way to avoid schemes like this: don't use the same password twice. Phishing schemes like this one won't work if you use multiple passwords. |
