Reported by: Katrina Irwin Thursday, Aug 27, 2009 @10:44am EDT The swim season is winding down, but it's not too early to start thinking about next year. There are ways you can heat and clean your pool while helping out the environment. "What we're basically doing is taking a refrigerant and turning it from a liquid into a gas and getting heat. We're not using any fossil fuels not burning anything. Probably one of the most efficient ways to heat your pool," says Kevin Harm of Aquacal. Instead of relying on fossil fuels to heat the water, the aquacal heat pump transfers the heat from the air. "It is a little bit more expensive to buy, but within a year or two you've made all that money back," says Harm. You can also consider using a salt system. It involves less chemicals and cuts down on the side effects. Harm says, "now you don't have any of the side effects. The green hair, red eyes, itching or dry skin. Almost like having a softener system in your pool." "It will tell you when to add salt, if you have to add salt to it. It makes it easier for you daily, again you're not dumping chlorine in," says Whitney Hocking of Salt Solutions by Whitlinn. He says most of his customers make the change because of the cost. "People seem to think more dollars and cents in this area than others they should think more green." |
