Reported by: WROC-TV Wednesday, Aug 19, 2009 @01:30pm EDT Scam artists seem to be targeting a senior living community in Wayne County, according to police.
The phone scammers call senior citizens, and the caller acts like a grandson who has just gotten into a car accident in Canada. Police said that the scammers ask for $3,000 for hospital expenses. In some cases, actual names of grandchildren are used. Police said that no seniors in Macedon fell for the trick. Another phone scam Macedon Police are seeing involves con artists calling up collision shops. The caller says they were in an accident in Pennsylvania, and are having their car towed to Macedon to get work done. Only problem is, they say they're short on cash, so they ask for credit card information. Police said that the calls come from outside the United States, and that callers should not give out any information. |
