Reported by: WROC-TV Tuesday, Jul 28, 2009 @04:00pm EDT President Obama took his plan for reforming the nation's healthcare industry to one of the nation's most prominent lobbyist groups.
At the headquarters of AARP in Washington DC, Obama answered questions at a town hall meeting where members were able to phone-in or send questions via the Internet. Officials at AARP made it clear they have not endorsed any of the legislation currently before Congress, but also said the healthcare industry cannot stay on its current path. Obama said he did not want to take away anyone's healthcare plan, but added, quote, "we've got to get a better bang for our healthcare dollar." He acknowledged change is not easy but said "we are closer to reform than we've ever been before." Among the questions he answered were topics on healthcare regarding pre-exisiting conditions. The President said under the reform, insurance companies would not be able to drop those who become sick or exclude those who are already ill from coverage. |
