  • Go Green: Recycled Clocks

We've all heard the saying, one man's trash is another's treasure. That couldn't be more true when it comes to going green.  A woman from Greece has found a way to make clocks from items normally found in the recycling bin.

Alison Davidson has an eye for design.   About a year ago she started making clocks out of things many of us take for granted.

"I was getting really fed up with throwing them out because we can only recycle #1 and #2 plastics here in Rochester and a lot of these caps are made with different types of plastic and can't recycle them," Davidson says.

It's not until you look closely at these clocks, that you can see they're made from caps. They come in all different colors and sizes.
"When you think about it, every time you go through a jar of peanut butter. Or a jug of milk these caps are being produced and with a family of four, they add up quickly."

And she didn't stop there. She has also found hidden beauty in old cd's and dvd's. And she's re-using beads to make bookmarks.  "It's really fun to find ways to re-use them so I would encourage people to think about that before you throw something into the recycling bin."

So far, her work has been a big hit. She recently launched a website, reactiongifts.com to sell them on.   She likes knowing that she's doing something to keep our landfills from filling up.  "I have young children and I am very concerned about the type of environment our generation is leaving for them," says Davidson.
