"It's geared towards teen users of the internet and it's really cautioning them about the risks of posting images or information online," says Edward Suk. He is the Executive Director of the NCMEC, NY Branch. What is posted on sites like Myspace not only can grab the attention of some adults, it can also catch the eye of the law. "On Myspace we seem to constantly run into problems with inappropriate pictures; alcohol, drugs, sexual content, so we deal with a lot of that," says Deputy Michael Dougherty of the Livingston County Sheriff's Department. "NY state law says if you're under the age of 16, you're not allowed to posses a bebe or pellet gun. Therefore, if they put that picture online, and it comes to our attention and we investigate that, the person can be found guilty of a crime as a juvenile delinquent." In these cases, the weapons were pellet guns but it's hard to tell that from a picture, and it's still illegal for someone under 16 to have. "I think the kids need to think about what they're putting on there before they do it," Dougherty adds.
