Reported by: John Kucko Tuesday, Jun 30, 2009 @09:07pm EDT Watkins Glen, NY (June 30, 2009) – Fans will have plenty to do over their Fourth of July weekend at Watkins Glen International. In addition to great racing during the Camping World Grand Prix at The Glen weekend, July 3-5, the staff of Watkins Glen International has been working diligently to put together a great line-up of off-track activities to entertain fans.
The fun kicks off on Friday night, July 3, when two fireworks displays will take place at 9:45 PM. Fans in the Village of Watkins Glen can watch the fireworks over Seneca Lake during the Indy-Pendence Celebration at Clute Park. For fans that wish to stay at the track, Watkins Glen International will host their own fireworks display at the same time. On Saturday, fans will have a chance to meet all of their favorite drivers from the IndyCar Series and SPEED World Challenge Series as both host autograph sessions. SPEED World Challenge starts the day with their autograph session from 12:00 PM – 1:00 PM in the SCCA Paddock area. Then, all of the stars of the IndyCar Series will meet in Turn 10 for their mandatory all-driver autograph session. From 5:15 PM – 6:15 PM, fans will be able to visit the area to meet all of their favorite drivers, including Danica Patrick, Scott Dixon, and defending race-winner Ryan Hunter-Reay. Saturday night will bring a myriad of activities to ensure that the fun at The Glen does not stop when the sun goes down. Instead, fans will stay entertained in to the night with concerts, fireworks and a NASCAR viewing party. Fans can rock the night away in Turn 10 where Ragged Sole kicks things off on the Red Cat Summer Stage beginning at 7:30 PM. The Ithaca, N.Y.-based band will return to The Glen for the second year in a row. Following the Ragged Sole performance, the Presidents of the United States of America are scheduled to take the stage at 8:15 PM. The Grammy-nominated band, best known for their work in the 1990s, is expected to perform until dusk. Meanwhile, a viewing party for the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series’ Coke Zero 400 from Daytona International Speedway will be going on in the FrontStretch Grandstand. Beginning at 8:00 PM, fans are invited to pick any seat in the FrontStretch Grandstand and settle-in until the checkered flag falls. The race will be shown live from Daytona via JumboTron. As one last celebration of our nation’s independence, the night will wrap up with a special 4th of July fireworks display at The Glen beginning at 9:45 PM. The fireworks will take place at the track allowing all fans to watch the spectacular. This year fans that purchase a Sunday-only ticket will be permitted to enter the track starting at 5:00 PM on Saturday, July 4. This will allow those ticket holders to take advantage of the IndyCar Series autograph session, both concerts, the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series viewing party, and fireworks. Fans with Sunday-only tickets are reminded to pick-up their return pass at the gate as they leave the track Saturday night so that they can re-enter for the Camping World Grand Prix at The Glen on Sunday, July 5. |
