Thursday, Jun 25, 2009 @11:35am EDT As the school year comes to an end and lockers and desks are cleaned out, a lot of waste is generated. He believes that one student's trash is another's treasure. "I saw kids coming to school the next year without stuff without school supplies and I figured why not collect the dots and it came from there," says Nellis. That's why he started up Greenseed Educational Supplies. It takes the leftovers from one school year and gives them to kids who can't afford new supplies next year.
"Tons of boxes have come in from different schools and we've been cleaning them up. Making sure there's no names on them and crossing them off and making sure all the stuff is good," says Eastridge Sophomore Sienna McDonald. They say it feels good to help pay it forward. Right now students in about a dozen classrooms recieve the donated supplies. If you want to learn more about the project or get involved click here. |
