Fort Hood is a U.S. Army post located near Killeen in Bell County.
It is the largest military base in the country with 209,089 acres or 327 squares miles. More than 50,000 people live on post.
Fort
Hood is the only two-division post in the United States -- 1st Cavalry
Division and the First Army Division West. It is also the home of III
Corps.
Today, one in 10 soldiers in the Army is
stationed at Fort Hood. The post has deployed more soldiers and
sustained more casualties in Iraq than any other post.
In
January 2007, Fort Hood installed a mass notification system making it
easier to notify post residents when severe weather or other
emergencies were imminent.
