Reported by: Bob Metcalfe Monday, Mar 9, 2009 @02:12pm EDT As the winter draws to a close, your kids are probably getting anxious to get outdoors. We want you to be ready to keep them busy during the coming months.
With less than three weeks left before the official start of spring here in Rochester, if you're sick of the snow and your kids have a case of cabin fever then we have a solution for you. The greater Rochester area has a ton of recreation, parks, even camps, and we want to help you find one. Its as easy as sitting at your computer, and knowing what you, and your kids, are looking for out of spring and summer activities. To help you find the perfect camp for your little (or not so little ones), Genesee Valley Parent Magazine has released the 2009 edition of its annual camp guide. "It gives the parents the chance to look ahead and see what's ahead, what they want to do with their kids for the summer," said Barbara Melnyk of Genesee Valley Parent magazine. "It's cold right now but kids are really thinking about summer activities, and the types of different things they want to do for the summer." Kids participate in after-school programs at the Carlson Metro Center YMCA to keep active in the winter. But indoor activity has its downsides. "It's so hot, and there's hardly no air. It's all the same air you're always breathing," said Ben Terrance. "I don't like it when its like inside voices - I want to get out my nature's spirit!" Kidsoutandabout.com has a comprehensive website dedicated to finding activities for your kids. Virtually tour over 30 area parks, or find a listing of the coolest trails to hike in both the cold and warm months. With this much information at your fingertips, and with a few more weeks to spend in front of that computer, there's no excuse to not be prepared for an active spring! |
